Intriguing Intervention: does the new add or subtract from the old?
This project is seeing alot of controversy from heritage professionals for its lack of respect towards historic fabric, yet there is many intersting components to this project that are quite successful. The simplicity of the new form inserted into the old continues to allow the visitor to imagine the Castle as it once was while giving new life to place. Perhaps a community-integrated design approach would have better utilized the ideas of the public to inform the new design and facilitated the transition from unstable ruin to usable dwelling space.
